Research interests
Using ecosystem approaches to public health, my research investigates the impacts of environmental changes on the distribution, persistence and transmission of microbial pathogens in various environmental matrices. More specifically, my research focuses on the environmental microbiology of food and water, as well as on a variety of zoonoses common in rural and agricultural environments and in aboriginal communities in Canada. I have a particular interest in symbioses between bacterial and parasitic pathogens and the occurrence of protozoan pathogens in biofilms. Synthesis and communication of results in a manner that aids informed decision making by both policy makers and the public are an integral component of my work.
